This is the third year of the RPM Challenge’s “Blind Experiment In Chaos,” although it’s the first I’ve participated in. The RPM Challenge, as mentioned a few posts back, entails recording 10 new songs or 35 minutes of new music during the month of February. Somebody got the idea a couple years ago that it would be interesting to have people record long (but relatively sparse) tracks completely in isolation, and then one mixer would be in charge of taking all of the snippets and turning it into a 35+ minute composition. This year’s output (38:21 in length) can be heard or downloaded from AloneTone, or it’s conveniently embedded below:

It’s that time of the year again – February means it’s time for the RPM Challenge, recording 10 new songs or 35 minutes of new music in the shortest month of the year. So far I haven’t made much progress, although I have written most of one song and parts of two more.

There’s a new CD viewer in testing, although it’s not “done-done,” so it’s not linked from the main music page. It pulls in cover art and Amazon associate links for just about every CD in my collection. As a result, I would not recommend loading it if you have limited bandwidth: 160x160px images for 800+ CDs. If you’re interested, you can check it out here.
I’m also in the process of beefing up the page for my music, including sub-sites for each of my recording projects. Currently, there are three recording projects, including Synaptic Disturbance, instrumental prog rock, Asymptotic Taste, moderately-unlistenable but fun-to-make improvisational noise, and Tianopta, electronic music. Right now basically all of the sites are stubs, but feel free to check out the music overviews and click through to BandCamp to listen to the music.
